St Kilian

This is the statue on the top of the Kiliansbrunnen

St. Kilian is the patron saint of Würzburg.

originated from Ireland he came with two other monks to evangelize the Franken (Franconians).

The three where killed by the franconian duchess Gailana.
She was married to the brother of her dead husband. That was forbidden because of incest (don't ask, that was 689 a.d.) Kilian told the duke he has to part with the woman.

So Gailana killed (or better someone she told to kill them) Kilian, Kolonat and Totnan and hastly buried them in a horse stable.

So noone knew where those three where and everyone thought they where gone, back to ireland or somewhere but the horses became nearly mad, stomped all the time and stuff, till they found the corpses of the three saint men.

The evil woman was executed then.
Yep stuff like that happend to that time.

Today you can see two weeks every year the skull of st. Kilian and some bones of the other two in one of your churches.
